Accuracy in Automated Stereophotogrammetry

چکیده
The design of an optimum configuration for the components of an automated stereophotogrammetry system involves careful selection of system parameters against application criteria such as field of view, desired depth accuracy and available camera system constraints. Here, we focus on the desired accuracy in measurements within a scene and treat other system parameters as constraints on obtainable accuracy. We show that verging axis optical systems provide better accuracy at the expense of some additional computational complexity in the scene reconstruction calculation.

The use of Roentgen stereophotogrammetry to study micromotion of orthopaedic implants
Roentgen stereophotogrammetry is the most accurate Roentgen technique for three-dimensional assessment of micromotion of orthopaedic implants. The reported accuracy of Roentgen Stereophotogrammetric Analysis (RSA) ranges between 0.05 and 0.5 mm for translations and between 0.15j and 1.15j for rotations. Because of the high accuracy of RSA, small patient groups are in general sufficient to study...
متن کاملThe Photogrammetric Week Series – A Centennial Story of Success
When Dr. Carl Pulfrich 1909 introduced the “Vacation Course in Stereophotogrammetry”, terrestrial photogrammetry has driven most applications. He, the founder of stereophotogrammetry, was convinced, that after the introduction of the stereo comparator (1901) a new milestone was needed to improve the accuracy of photogrammetric object reconstruction. Obviously, there is nothing better than initi...

متن کاملThe accuracy of a CT-based bone segmentation technique for measuring the range of motion of the joints in the ankle
Introduction For measuring the in-vivo range-of-motion of the ankle joints, a semi-automated Computer Tomography based bone contour method (CT/BCM) was developed to determine the three-dimensional position and orientation of the bones. To validate this technique, we hypothesized that the range of motion in the ankle is at least equally accurately measured by Roentgen Stereophotogrammetric Analy...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Analysis of Scoliosis Surgery Using Stereophotogrammetry
Scoliosis is a deformity characterized by coronal, sagittal and axial rotation of the spine. Surgical instrumentation (metal pins and rods) and eventual fusion of the spine are required in severe cases. Assessment of the deformity requires enough accuracy to allow proactive planning of individual interventions or implant designs. Conventional 2-D radiography and even 3-D CT scanning do not prov...
